Hush Hush

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick is a thriller, horror, mystery, and romance novel of twisted plot structures and vivid, colorful characters.

Hush Hush centers on a sophomore named Nora Grey who always seemed to live a normal life when a certain person, particularly her new biology partner named Patch walks into her life. Upon first glance, Patch is a bad boy right from the beginning, from skipping classes to playing pool, and his irresistible yet cocky smile just adds fuel to the fire. Nora hadn’t been interested in the boys at her school, rather, they gave her no reason to, but when Patch steps into the picture, she is strangely attracted to him against her better judgment. This attraction, in the slightest, doesn’t look promising; he mysteriously knows everything about her, and this sure isn’t comfortable for Nora.

Then, one after another came terrifying encounters, one of them being a man wearing a ski mask who is clearly trying to kill her, and then her room is ransacked, and she feels a stalker at her heels. But the question is: could suspicious Patch be the man wearing the ski mask, wishing to murder her? Nora also meets other suspicious figures other than Patch, and she is in a crisis of who she can trust, for choosing the wrong person will cost Nora a life she can never replace.

Taking an uneasy step to the supernatural, Nora discovers an unreal side to the world she’s walking on. She discovers humans aren’t alone, and angels, both fallen and immortal, hide in shadows and lurk to see that their intentions are accomplished, no matter what the consequences. Mysteries of the paranormal unravel to an adventure Nora will always remember to more than she’ll ever imagine, all beginning from Patch.

I immediately fell in love to this book, right from the start when I laid eyes on the cover. Captivating enough, the story inside was a treat to read and enjoy. The fast pace adds to the suspense, and the plot line is magnificent, and the thriller and romance additions make it a perfect fun book to read any day. I recommend this novel because it’s dark, mysterious, shocking, and well-written overall, and from the first page of words, I couldn’t keep the book down, nor could I resist finding out more.

Critics such as the Kirkus Reviews complimented Hush Hush, saying it was “a thrilling debut.” Publishers Weekly said it was “a gripping chiller... Fitzpatrick regularly tweaks the tension, resulting in a fast-paced, exhilarating read. Nora’s tempestuous relationship with prototypical bad boy Patch is genuinely, even unsettling seductive- fans of paranormal romance should be rapt”. Others have also rewarded Becca Fitzpatrick’s debut book with praise.

This is actually Becca Fitzpatrick’s first book, and it’s a good start. Anyone wanting more from her can expect a sequel, Crescendo, and the release date has been announced, and will come out somewhere in autumn 2010.

  1. This novel seems very intriguing. Your description kept me reading more. I hope Nora didn't get murdered, but I guess I will have to read it to find out! You had a good summary, great job!
